Air Conditioning by Treat’s Heating & Cooling
When the weather starts to warm up and you turn on the air conditioner for relief but it starts blowing warm air, there are a few things you can do to troubleshoot before calling Treat’s Heating & Cooling for service.
The first thing to check is whether or not there is air coming out of the supply vents or not. If there is air coming out of the vents, here are a few simple steps to follow:
Check the thermostat fan setting – does your air conditioner run cold air sometimes but hot air other times? Make sure the fan setting is set to “auto” and not “on” which will cause your air conditioning to blow air even if it’s not being cooled.
Check the air filter – If the air coming out of the supply vents is weak and not very cool, check to see if the air filter is dirty and change it if necessary. A dirty air filter blocks airflow to the air handler.
Check the outside AC unit – Is the outside unit covered by debris or anything blocking the unit? Clean it off if there is. The unit needs breathing room and the fan should be operating or else the outside unit can’t cool down refrigerant to cool your homes air.
If your unit is not blowing any air and the AC unit isn’t working at all, here are some steps you can follow.
Check your thermostat temperature – Make sure you have set the temperature setting at least 5 degrees below the room temperature.
Make sure the thermostat is set to cool – It seems simple but someone in your household may have set the thermostat to off or heat.
Check the air filter – If an air filter gets too dirty it will block the airflow and freeze the inside unit. Change the air filter if it is dirty.
Check to make sure there is electricity to the unit – You can check the switches by the compressor in the outside unit, check the switch that is on the inside unit and check the fuses or circuit breaker in the electrical panel. If any of these switches are set to off, there may be a problem with your air conditioner.
