Energy Savings by Treat’s Heating & Cooling
If you use air conditioning during the hot months of the summer your energy bill is going to be higher than normal. Sometimes you may have to sacrifice a little bit of comfort to cut your costs on energy bills, but if you are serious about saving money, these simple tips should help you.
Programmable Thermostat: by using a programmable thermostat, you can set your air conditioning to come on and turn off at certain times of the day. This helps because when you are not home; you can keep the air lower but then set it to come on to the desired temperature when you arrive home.
Use windows and fans in the evening: Once it starts to cool down outside in the evening, open your windows and use fans to blow the cool air inside. This will save money on costs to operate the air conditioning all night and while you are asleep.
Seal off unused rooms: If you have central or room air conditioning and there are rooms that are not occupied, keep the door closed. With central forced air, seal off the register. It’s a waste to keep a room cool when there is no benefit.
Keep up on the maintenance on your AC: If you have central air, have your unit serviced at the start of each cooling season, or even twice per year if you live in a climate that is always hot and the air conditioning runs all year long. You should also change the air filter on a forced air unit whenever required, typically every 3 months but check them monthly and wash/replace the filter if it is dirty. A clogged filter reduces efficiency and puts strain on the motor.
