Water Heaters by Treat’s Heating & Cooling
Water heaters are a very important part of every home as they provide hot water for bathing & cooking. We don’t often think about this until we try to take a hot shower and water is cold or you notice that the tank is leaking. Often times families will take showers after one another and then find that the hot water is not at the desired temperature so you have to wait a while for it to heat up.
Below is some information from Treat’s Heating & Cooling that will explain how this process works.
The thermostat on a Hot Water Heater is usually set between 120 and 140 degrees. If you set it lower that this, you will save on energy. When the temperature drops below this level an igniter or pilot light will heat up the water inside until it reaches the desired temperature that it has been set at.
As the water warms up it rises to the top of the tank where it goes out of a pipe into the plumbing system. Water is replenished using a dip tube, which brings cold water from the plumbing system and deposits it in the bottom of the tank. It is possible to run out of hot water because the heater has to pull water hasn’t been completely heated.
