Fireplace Maintenance by Treat’s Heating & Cooling
As we approach the colder season, many of you start to use your Gas Fireplaces. What many don’t realize is just like your furnace – your Gas Fireplace needs to be maintained on an annual basis. Treat’s Heating & Cooling will talk about some of the things that could take place if you don’t maintain your Fireplace and Safety.
Ventilation: Even though a Gas Fireplace burns clean as no creosote or soot is deposited into the chimney, it till needs to be inspected annually. Moisture problems can cause the chimney to deteriorate and fail to function properly. If there is air moving through the chimney cracks, the ventilation system will not work and could expose a home to carbon monoxide.
Safety: The glass doors on a fireplace can get as hot as 400 degrees Fahrenheit which could cause serious injury if touched. It takes about 45 minutes for these doors to cool off after the fireplace is turned off. Children and adults should be warned about this danger, screens provide a nice barrier when you have small children in the home.
Fire: Any type of open combustion has the potential to cause a fire. Gas fireplaces should be treated with the same level of awareness and be cleaned and inspected annually.
